Various folx on Instagram recommended this book to me, but it wasn’t until I went into a local bookstore that I picked it up.
Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds by adrienne maree brown is a guide for how to create sustainable, lasting change in ourselves and our lives, based off of patterns brown observes in nature.
brown writes in an accessible and inviting tone, not assuming the reader already has access to social justice jargon. Furthermore, brown’s writing moves seamlessly between the personal, theoretical, and practical. A quick but profound read, Emergent Strategy felt well-timed and exciting to engage with.
We need each other. I love the idea of shifting from “mile wide inch deep” movements to “inch wide mile deep” movements that schism the existing paradigm . . . Emergent strategies are ways for humans to practice complexity and grow the future through relatively simple interactions.
[A]s we transform, we see more things that need transformation, within ourselves and the world.
I felt lighter after reading this book; I hope you do, too.
